Ananthasana is one of the most important asana in yoga with lots of health benefits. It is also known as The Vishnu’s Couch Pose. The name Ananthasana actually comes from sanskrit words, where ‘Anantha’ means infinity and ‘Asana’ means pose or posture.
Lie flat on the back with feet together and turn towards your left. Now, place your left hand below your head to support it. While inhaling gradually raise your right leg to 90*and try to hold the toes of your right leg with your right hand. Be in the position for sometime breathe normally and ensure that your right arm and leg is straight. While exhaling bring the leg down slowly and relax. The turn towards the right side and repeat the asana with the left leg. This completes the asana.
Benefits: It strengthens calves, ankle and harmstrings muscles. This pose helps in improving spine flexibility, blood circulation and body balance. It stimulates the thyroid and pituitary glands and endocrine system. It prevents asthma and reduces belly fat. It is helpful in treating and curing urinary and menustral disorders.
Cautions: This posture should not be practiced by those suffering from neck pain, shoulder pain, spondylitis. slip disc and sciatica.
